Ecclestone Skeptics On Korean GP Launch
Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone has expressed his doubt as to whether the Korean Grand Prix inaugural will advance or not.
The brand-new Yeongam track, where the race is expected to e held on October 24, is still subject to the FIA’s final safety inspection.
Ecclestone said it was not good that the track’s initial inspection, scheduled on September 21, was cancelled due to a public holiday in South Korea and was moved to October 11 instead.
The Formula One boss took note of the danger in putting the inspection off and is already having second thoughts as to whether the race should go on.
Despite Ecclestone’s doubts, race organizers still believe that the race will go ahead according to plans.
Korea Auto Valley Operation (KAVO) spokesman Kim Jae-Ho claimed the track is almost complete for the October 24th race. He assured that everything is already set by the time FIA officials conduct their final inspection.
Meanwhile, Red Bull’s Mark Webber is still leading the F1 world championship standings even though the Singapore title ended up in Fernando Alonso’s hands.
The Australian collided with McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton during the event and finished third while his team-mate Sebastian Vettel finished ahead of him.
The race resumes on October 10 in Japan.
